Rosenlew Oy originally built dams to regulate water, which were inherited by UPM-Kymmene. In the 2010s, as a joint project of UPM, the ELY Center, and the municipality of Janakkala, the fixed regulation dams were transformed into operational bottom dams that also allow fish to travel between the lakes and streams. At the same time, beautiful and pleasant recreational sites were created, where one can also launch a canoe or boat. Especially the dam at Kesijärvi has a charming and peaceful environment.

The restoration of the water system benefits especially migratory species, such as trout and eel. Fish passages are designed to also serve as spawning areas for trout.
