Decommissioned oil tank
A decommissioned fuel or chemical tank must be inspected and notification of its removal must be made to Kanta-Hämeen rescue services. An underground unused tank can also be considered waste, which must be removed and delivered cleaned for proper handling or recycling, especially in groundwater areas.
Leaving the tank in the ground
A fuel or chemical tank can be left in the ground if it has been inspected and cleaned, provided that removal is technically difficult or otherwise unreasonable. Leaving the tank in the ground always requires a supporting statement from the environmental planner.
A building permit application must be submitted to the building supervision authority for a change in heating method. The application is made through the electronic permit service. Along with the application, a statement from environmental protection must be requested. The statement request will be sent with justification from the permit service. If the oil tank is located indoors / in an underground bunker, a statement from environmental protection is not required.
If the applicant needs a separate statement, for example, to apply for support granted by the ELY center, a fee will be charged for preparing the statement according to the environmental protection rate (64 €).
