Energy efficiency
The municipality of Janakkala signed an energy efficiency agreement with the Ministry of Employment and the Economy (TEM) in August 2011. The first term lasted from 2008 to 2016. Janakkala has also joined the second contractual period from 2017 to 2025. By improving energy efficiency, we aim for cost savings and to reduce the municipality’s climate and environmental impacts. We strive to be exemplary in our operations and thereby influence the attitudes and behaviors of the residents.
The goal of the energy efficiency agreement for the period 2017-2025 is to achieve a 7.5% energy savings by 2025. In addition to energy savings, the aim is to increase the share of renewable energy in the municipality.
An action plan has been drawn up in Janakkala to enhance energy use and increase the use of renewable energy. Energy audits have been conducted in municipal properties covering 80% of the building volume. A municipal renewable energy audit was carried out for the entire municipality in 2012.
<p.Completed energy-saving measures include streetlight renovations, renovations and updates of ventilation and heating controls and devices, upgrades to building automation, changes to outdoor lighting to LED lighting, updates to indoor lighting to LED lighting, etc. In renovation and new construction projects, energy-saving goals have been increasingly taken into account where possible. The use of renewable energy has been increased by changing heating methods from oil to ground source heat pumps and air-water heat pumps, and an exhaust air heat pump has also been implemented in one location.Follow the production of solar power plants in the municipality’s properties:
