Röyhynsuo
Röyhynsuo has been drained in the past to increase forest growth. Subsequently, the swamp was taken into peat production, which continues to this day. Röyhynsuo features a bird wetland implemented by Vapo, which has proven to be a very significant bird site. During migration periods, large numbers of geese thrive in the swamp.
Next to Röyhynsuo flows the Puujoki River, which merges with the waters of Lake Kernaala at Vettenjakamo and continues its journey as the Hiidenjoki River. The area also boasts Janakkala’s only sea, Asikonmeri, which is a pond cut off from the river route. The Vettenjakamo region is also an important bird site.
The swamp has a bird tower constructed by Vapo, but it should be noted that the road leading to the tower passes through the peat production area. During the production season, attention must be paid to machinery and a yellow reflective vest should be worn for safety reasons.
